Annual Wellness Exams
As a responsible and caring pet owner, you should know that it’s important to be seen by medical professionals on a regular basis to stay healthy. For example, you go to your dentist twice a year for cleanings and you see your primary care provider at least once a year for a physical. Just as these appointments are necessary for you and your family to thrive, it’s also important for your beloved animal companions to get annual wellness exams too.
These routine checkups by a veterinarian are the foundation of your pet’s health and wellbeing. For that reason, we want to encourage you to get into the habit of bringing your animal in for these appointments every year. The vet can catch ailments in their initial stages, making it easier to treat and heal your pet, as well as make any lifestyle change recommendations.
Casillas Veterinary Hospitals began as a small facility in East Los Angeles and due to popular demand, we have expanded our service offerings to Casillas, Lynwood, and Montebello for the convenience of our patients.
Please bring your pet on a leash or in a pet carrier for the safety and comfort of all the animals we see in our pet hospital.
Younger pets should start seeing their veterinarian when they are about 6 weeks old. At this point, you’ll be getting an examination as well as a schedule for any required vaccinations that have yet to be administered. Older pets will need to come in once a year after their vaccinations have been completed.
If this is the first time you will be bringing your pet to be seen by our vet, it’s natural to wonder what exactly is involved. The veterinarian will begin by talking with you about your pet, learning details about its age, activity level and any health concerns you may have. A technician will weigh your pet.
Then, it’s time for a thorough examination. The veterinarian will examine your pet’s eyes, ears, teeth, and skin, as well as listen to its breathing and heart rate. It’s crucial to check for any parasites, such as heartworm. Depending on the age of your pet, it might be time to get a vaccination, according to the schedule set up by the vet.
The veterinarian will order any lab tests that are required and will let you know when the results will be available. You may get advice on adding more activities to your pet’s daily routines, and the vet might suggest a change in diet if warranted.
You’ll leave our facility knowing that you are doing your part as a responsible pet owner to ensure that professionals give a thorough wellness exam once every year. Older pets and animals with certain conditions may need to come in for wellness exams more than once per year. The vet will consult with you to determine the best schedule for follow-up visits.
